Family Camping at Cyprus Lake
Together for our family summer vacation we spent five nights sleeping under the stars at Cyprus Lake in the Bruce Peninsula National Park . This vacation was filled with smiles and great weather. Coen seems to be the happiest when he is camping, it's magical to witness. Life, in my opinion, becomes easier when camping. My world is managed in a 10x10 space of dirt and trees with endless possibilities of adventure off that square. In that space I have my home (tent) that the three of us pile into and sleep side by side each night. This sleeping arrangement alone is pretty special. Witnessing my toddler wake up as he rustles around and blinks his eyes open and then giggles as he sees me peering back at him simply melts my heart. In this small space we cook, play, bath, read, dig, sing, talk... and we are very much together as we do it all. I have no underlying nag to tidy my 'house' or finish that project, vacuum, or do work... when I am camping I am there... right there...physically and mentally. Unfortunately, this is something that I can't always say when I am in my 'other home' (our house). Here we talk to our camping neighbours and watch the other kids play and bike around. We notice the bugs and animals who stop by for visits. We notice each other and the daily life processes that would otherwise be mundane. This simplicity and awareness is most spectacular. This is why I love camping. Here are some special moments from our trip and a little window into my happy place. Enjoy.
